Clearco da Reggio

In Reggio existed a lively tradition concerning bronze working. This activity achieved its climax with the sculptor Clearco, whose works were known and appreciated so to be shown in the best Greek temples. Pausania speaks about a bronze statue by Clearco, repesenting Zeus Hypatos, present in the temple of Athena and Sparta.
The peculiarity of this statue was that the statue was not melted but formet of many pieces nailed together; a so archaic working that let Pausania affirm that Clearco's statue was the most ancient work realized in bronze.
