Born in Rossano in 910 besides being the founder of monasteries and restorer of the monastic disclipline, he had friendly relationships both with the Pope Gregory V and with the Emperor of Byzantium, reconciliating this way contrasting political interests and theological concenptions togheter in a higher vision. In his monasteries, Basilian asceticism became fecund of works in fact the hermits studied holy writings, practised manual work and trascribed codes though a tachigraphic sustem invented by ST. Nilo himself. He was also a writer in fact he wrote liturgical verses where he diffused his love for God.
