Michele Morelli

Born in 1790 in Monteleone Calabro, now Vibo Valentia, from a rich family, M. Morelli was initiated to a military career. Cavalry Second Lieutnant of the Royal Borbonic Regiment, taking part to the Carbonist Movement, he was an active propagandist of liberal ideas. On 2 nd January 1820 with his friend Giuseppe Salviati and with the priest Minichini, he led the rebellion to ask for a constitution. After the failure of their action, Morelli, Salviati and other 28 patriots were arrested and condemned to death. But while pardon was granted to the other condemned, Morelli and Salviati were hunged on september 12 1822.
