Corrado Alvaro

He was born in San Luca in 1895 and died in Rome in 1956. Achieved high school degree in Catanzaro and after partecipating to the World War I he was in Rome, in Umbria, in Florence, in Bologna and at the end in Milan where he attended the Italian Literature Faculty. A very famous journalist already at the age of twenty, he travelled all over Europe and he stayed in Paris and Berlin for a long time. He directed the "Il Popolo di Roma" during Badoglio's period. At first he was a collaborator at the "La Stampa" and then at "Il Corriere della Sera". Among his books we remeber: La Signora dell'Isola, L'amata alla finestra, Gente in aspromonte, Vent'anni, Il mare, L'uomo è forte, Itinerario Italiano, Incontri d'amore, L'età breve, Quasi una vita, Il nostro tempo e la speranza, Mastrangelina, Belmoro, Un treno nel Sud, Ultimo diario, and above all "Il viaggio" including youthful poems and of his maturity and the drama : La Lunga notte di Medea. .
